Club Only Competitions

 

At JBG, we hold various competitions throughout the year to celebrate the diversity and talent of all of the great brewers in our club. Throughout the year we will hold style specific competitions that will be judged by a panel of non participating members and guest judges.

 

JBG Brewer of the Year Rules:

  • 1. Top 5 places will receive points from 5 points for 1st place down to 1 point for 5th place
  • 2. Brewer/Callaboration w/the most points at the end of the year is Brewer of the Year
  • 3. For callaboration brewers to receive points, the
  • brewers involved must be a poart of at least two of the
  • following brewing activities:
    • Recipe Design
    • Active participation during brew day
    • Pay for ingredients
    • Assist with fermentation
    • Assist with bottling/kegging
  • 4. All callaboration brewers will receive the placement points
  • 5. In the event of a year-end tie the cumulative judge's points obtained throughout the 7 competitions will be used to break the tie
  • 6. Only ONE entry peer brewer per dcompetition, including collaboration brews.
  • 7. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each competition and brewer of the year!
  • 8. Drop-off entries will be accepted, please arrange date and time with Jason Janes
  • 9. Failure to follow the competition guidlelines will result in NO points awarded!

2018 Competition Schedule and Results

  • March - Irish Beer (Stout/Red) - Must use and irish yeast, follow 2015 BJCP Guidlines 15A (Red), 15B (Stout) or 15C (Extra Stout) for IBUs, ABV, SRM

  • March - Charlie orr/drunk monk challenge, this year we will be rewarding brewer of the year points to any brewer who medals in either of these competitions. brewers will receive 3 points for gold, 2 points for silver and 1 point for bronze. with a maximum of 10 points available per brewer for these competitions.

 

  • april - will county brewing New England ipa challenge! Will county brewing is going to judge the April competition, and then ramp up the winning beer for their soon to be open tap room! so bring out your juiciest, haziest NEIPA for the first Will co. brewing ramp up!

  • june - summer session beer, the style is open but the beer must be kept under 4.5% (we're looking at you glen). you may use any adjunct you want, so make your best summer themed beer.

  • october - Festbier! dust off your lederhosen and grab a pretzel and a brat, it's festbier season! brew up your best marzen (bjcp style: 6a) a favorite style of any beer lover with a pulse, be it a lager or an ale, make it bright, malty clean and german!

  • Dececember - Big and Dark - The Mother of All JBG Competitions! Brew any style you want as long as it is BIG (8.5% ABV or higher) and DARK (30 SRM or higher)! This competition is where legends are made so get brewing!
